Watch Women on CNN Freak Out on Air After Trump Makes Joke About Melania in Kitchen

Share

CNN talking heads have made it clear that they do not appreciate being referred to as “fake news” by President Donald Trump and the American public. And yet, they keep doing things that arguably reinforce the idea that they are indeed “fake news.”

In their latest episode of attempting to smear the president, they shot themselves in the foot in the process. Their target was Trump’s commentary about ordering fast food for the national champion Clemson Tigers football team during a White House visit on Monday, which included a reference to the first and second ladies.

While explaining the decision, Trump said, “Do we have no food for you, ’cause we have a shutdown? Or do we give you some little quick salads that the first lady will make, along with the second lady. They’ll make some salads.”

“And I said, ‘You guys aren’t into salads.’ Or do I go out, Lindsay Graham and Tim Scott, do I go out and send out for about 1,000 hamburgers, Big Macs?”

Erin Burnett, host of CNN’s “OutFront,” shared a clip with that commentary Monday night, then joined in an attack to deride the president as “sexist.”

What could he have possibly said wrong? The joke about Melania Trump and Karen Pence making salads for the team was apparently a tremendous insult.

And it gets worse. Burnett’s guest, liberal political commentator Joan Walsh, actually ripped into Trump for disrespecting his daughter Ivanka. She thought the “second lady” reference Trump used was referring to his daughter, not the vice president’s  wife.

Walsh began by saying, “That’s appalling. It seems to me like the president will not be happy until there is not one single female Republican voter in the country.

“It’s incredibly sexist. It also, I mean, I don’t know why I’m stuck on this.

Do you think a woman who cooks is a woman who is demeaned?

“But, Ivanka is not the second lady. She is actually, I don’t think she deserves this position, she’s actually a senior adviser to the president.

“So the idea that he would demean her specifically in that way. He shouldn’t talk about the first lady that way either.

“We aren’t all here to make salads for men. It’s disgusting.”

Burnett quickly chimed in, correcting Walsh on her assumption that Ivanka was “the second lady.”

“I’m presuming he was talking about Karen Pence when he said ‘second lady,'” Burnett said. (The fact that Trump gestured toward Vice President Mike Pence while he was making the joke should have tipped off even a liberal observer.)

Walsh then realized her error.

“Oh, God. I’m sorry.” And then she quickly added to her attack with, “She shouldn’t be doing it, either.”

As if that was not bad enough, there is more. Not only do plenty of women enjoy cooking, but lately a number of leftist darlings have been trying to display how much like heartland America they are by showing themselves in the kitchen, cooking.

In an opinon piece for The Washington Examiner, former State Department speech writer Melissa Braunstein took note of the development under the headline “The new feminists’ kitchen campaigns.” She wrote that Sens. Kamala Harris of California, Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts — all Democrats — have all utilized this tactic.

In addition, Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, may have kicked the trend into gear by doing a live stream of herself taking questions and cooking macaroni and cheese with her Instant Pot on Instagram. The Slot noted that Ocasio-Cortez has also live steamed herself cooking black bean soup, also in her Instant Pot.

So what is the big deal about a liberated woman choosing to cook?

The big deal is that not only did CNN just decry that, as if cooking makes a woman demeaned and not a feminist, but that this is a standard attack for liberals. In fact, a prominent female political figure is infamous for doing the same a quarter century ago.

Enter failed presidential candidate, Democrat Hillary Clinton. As Braunstein noted, it was back in 1992, prior to her husband, Bill, winning the presidency that Clinton hit a reporter with an anti-cooking response.

“I suppose I could have stayed home and baked cookies and had teas,” she said in response to a question. “But what I decided to do was to fulfill my profession, which I entered before my husband was in public life.”

Apparently, she didn’t know how to “do it all” as so many other American women choose to do.

So, where is the backlash against Warren, Harris, and Ocasio-Cortez for demeaning women and not being good feminists? After all, they actually are women, who were in the kitchen, cooking.

Meanwhile, Trump joked about women making salads and got excoriated over it.

That is the raging hypocrisy of the left in action for the whole world to see.

And it is yet another example of CNN’s desperation to find new ways to smear the sitting president. Some would call that “fake news.”
