Dog Owners All Over Are Sharing Before and After Photos of Their Rescue Pups

Share

Some people who want a dog avoid animal shelters because they want a purebred. There’s nothing wrong with wanting that, but if they think they can’t find it at a shelter, they’re wrong.

Most breeds of dogs do pass through shelters now and then, though some are definitely more prevalent than others. Plus, if you adopt a dog, you have a chance to rewrite its story.

Many dogs that end up in shelters are there because their owners were moving, they got out of their yards and ran away, or they were abandoned.

But there are others who have suffered more than heartbreak. Some dogs have been on death’s doorstep, suffered horrible abuse at the hands of people, or have health conditions that were neglected for a long time.

In an effort to encourage potential adopters and bring some joy and hope to people’s days, many pet parents have posted photos of their beloved furry friends in their before and after conditions.

The result of love and care is absolutely amazing.

This is Bento. Bento is a pug who, at one time in his life, had a terrible skin condition. He was starving, sick, and sore, and when he was picked up off the streets it took him days to relax in his new home.

You can see the sadness in his eyes in that first picture: he’s wary and in pain. But the next photo? Total transformation! His eyes are happy, and he’s practically smiling.

Nico is another amazing example of what tenderness can result in. A photo of him in the shelter swept across the internet in 2009. People who didn’t know him and would never meet him felt their hearts melt for him and wanted to help.

The sad dogo Argentino, known as a guard dog and a bully breed, was collapsed against the shelter wall, looking like he’d given up on the world that had given up on him.

But the people rallied. Nearly 20 dog lovers came together to transport him from California to Indiana, where he was eventually adopted. He was deaf, so he got special training to be able to communicate with his humans and was never aggressive.

He is a sight more confident in the after photo!

Bully breeds definitely get the short end of the stick when it comes to a lot of abuse and neglect situations. Since they’re often bred for fighting, they tend to be in very rough shape when they’re abandoned.

This poor pup was tossed over a shelter fence when his owners tired of him. He had a health disorder that prevented him from processing food correctly, had heartworm, and was covered in fleas.
