Dolly Parton Is Getting Her Own Netflix Show

Share

Just when we thought Dolly Parton had done it all, she’s gone and found another way for us to love her. The award-winning singer-songwriter and actress is now getting her own Netflix show!

Over the weekend, rumors began to circulate about Parton working on a project with Netflix. “Grace and Frankie” star and former co-star Lily Tomlin accidentally mentioned the show’s existence during a promotional panel for her show.

Tomlin was asked if she wanted Parton to appear on “Grace and Frankie,” to which she responded that that would delight her.

“But she’s just so busy,” Tomlin said. “She does so many things, and now she has a big show deal herself at Netflix, so I don’t know.”

This comment possibly led to the official announcement made today that there is, in fact, an eight-episode Dolly Parton Netflix anthology series in the works.

Each episode will be based on one of Parton’s songs. She will also be the executive producer of the series as well as appear in it “when the script calls for it.”

The agreement with Netflix is very similar to Parton’s previous agreement with NBC, where she made a couple of TV movies based off of her music and her life.

The first film was “Coat of Many Colors,” which aired to an audience of about 13 million people. The movie was followed by a sequel, “Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love.” Both films aired as holiday specials on NBC in 2015 and 2016.

In August 2015, NBC announced they were making a third film based off of “Jolene”, but the film was canceled and never moved on.

“As a songwriter, I have always enjoyed telling stories through my music,” Parton said. “I am thrilled to be bringing some of my favorite songs to life with Netflix. We hope our show will inspire and entertain families and folks of all generations, and I want to thank the good folks at Netflix and Warner Bros. TV for their incredible support.”

This project comes from Parton’s Dixie Pixie Productions and Sam Haskell’s Magnolia Hill Entertainment, who is associated with Warner Bros Television. Haskell will also be an executive producer with Parton on the project, but there is no announced release date as of press time.

Parton has been working on many other projects recently as well, including the soundtrack for Jennifer Anniston’s movie “Dumplin’,” a children’s music album, and donating her 100 millionth children’s book through her Imagination Library project.

Fans are already buzzing about the announcement and are ready to gather around and watch Parton’s music come to life once again.
