Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump recently stated under oath that he had planned his remarks that some Mexican illegal immigrants were rapists and other criminals, but he had not discussed it with anyone prior to saying it.
Trump angered many when he made the following statement in his presidential announcement address: “They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
He repeated the gist of his statement in a written statement three weeks later, doubling down on it: “The Mexican government is forcing their most unwanted people in the United States. They are, in many cases, criminals, drug dealers, rapists, etc. Likewise, tremendous infectious disease is pouring across the border. The United States has become a dumping ground for Mexico, and, in fact, many other parts of the world.”

Trump testified about his announcement speech as part of a lawsuit against two chefs who are pulling out of deals reached with Trump to put restaurants in a Washington, D.C., hotel that opens later this year. The presidential candidate spoke under oath June 16 to the attorney of Gregory Zakarian, one of the chefs, Politico reported.
Trump was also asked whether his remarks had been misinterpreted by the media. He responded, “I think the media is very dishonest. But all I’m doing is bringing up a situation that is very real. And I think, you know, most people think I’m right.”
Trump is seeking $14 million from Zakarian for pulling out of the restaurant deal.

Zakarian commented about Trump’s statements about Mexicans, saying, “There’s reputation. There’s financial. There’s … familial reasons, because moralistically speaking, all my employees are Mexicans or Hispanics, almost all of them. It’s disgraceful.”
The GOP nominee is also suing chef José Andres.
