
Fact Check: Do Somalis Contribute More to Minnesota's Bottom Line Than They Take?
It has become the mainstream media’s rallying cry in the face of President Donald Trump’s decision to take on Somali migration to the state of Minnesota: an attempt to show the Somali community there is a net benefit for both the state and for America. But is that true?
The move to defend the Somali community comes after Trump announced he was ending Temporary Protected Status for immigrants from there — which they’ve had since 1991 — amid a more general pause on migration from the Third World.
Obviously, this push is going to be met with political and legal challenges, but it’s also likely to be popular, particularly since Minnesota’s insular Somali community is almost entirely responsible for a massive welfare fraud which has sapped at least $1 billion from taxpayers, officials say.
