On numerous occasions, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has downplayed the FBI’s ongoing investigation into her private email server, referring to as a “security inquiry.”
Speaking to Fox News Wednesday, FBI Director James Comey contradicted Clinton saying “I don’t even know what that means, a ‘security inquiry.’ We do investigations here at the FBI.”
When commenting on the investigation timeline, Comey made it clear he had no set schedule, adding he would rather have an investigation that was done “well” over one that was done quickly.

Clinton once again used the phrase on Sunday, when she appeared on CBS’ Face the Nation. Asked to give her response to the people who consider the investigation a “big deal”, Clinton said, “I say what I’ve said now for many, many months. It’s a security inquiry. I always took classified material seriously. There was never any material marked classified that was sent or received by me, and I look forward to this being wrapped up.”
Sidney Blumenthal also mocked the FBI’s investigation into his former boss’ secret email server. “My understanding is that this is a security review. It’s certainly not a criminal investigation,” he told CNN’s Alisyn Camerota. “It’s an inquiry into whether or not anyone intentionally put classified information where it shouldn’t be. And my understanding is that they will conclude and the Department of Justice will issue a statement at the end that that was not the case.”
In a news conference Monday, Attorney General Loretta Lynch said she was unable to predict when the investigation would come to an end, saying, “We do all our reviews, investigations of any matter carefully, thoroughly, and efficiently. And when the matter is ready for resolution, a recommendation will be made and we’ll come to a decision at that time and I’m not able to give you a prediction. Sorry.”

When asked if the FBI had made contact, Clinton said she has not spoken with anyone, but claimed she was willing. She also said she had encouraged her assistants to be forthcoming.
