'Flip or Flop' Star To Open Rehab Centers, Believes It's Her 'Calling'

“You do not get to choose the events that come your way nor the sorrows that interrupt your life,” Pastor David Crosby wrote in his book “Your Pain is Changing You.”

“They will likely be a surprise to you, catching you off guard and unprepared,” he continued. “You may hold your head in your hands and lament your weak condition and wonder what you ought to do.”

Christina El Moussa, star of Flip or Flop on HGTV, shared those words on Twitter last November.

She’d been through a lot — a lot of pain, a lot of brokenness — and those words resonated with her.

As she says, she is a fixer. Up until now, that’s been applied to brightening people’s lives by creating stylish and inviting living spaces, but now she’s set her sights on something bigger.

She’s going to open rehab centers for drug and alcohol addicts, and she’s doing it with the help of pastor Tim Storey and friend Cassie Zebisch.

“When I met Tim, we realized there was an opportunity for us to change people’s lives,” she said.

“I love to fix up a house, but I also love to help people. I feel like that’s my calling.”

She felt drawn to this form of service, and she traces it back to the life-changing assistance she received when she was in a time of struggle.

“Two years ago I was focused on trying not to sink,” she said. “But after I started exercising, eating right, surrounding myself with the correct people, I felt this switch.”

Two years ago, she and her husband got a divorce. It was a trying time for both of them, but now that she’s had time, distance, and healing, she wants to bring healing to others.

“Everyone’s been there,” she said. “Everyone’s had a setback, but it’s how you move forward and what you do with your future, that’s what matters.”

She also has a new show coming out, “Christina on the Coast.” She’s certainly a busy woman, and it will be exciting to see how her future endeavors turn out!
