The long-running soap opera “General Hospital” lost a beloved former cast member on Friday. Susan Brown, known for her role as Dr. Gail Adamson Baldwin died at the age of 86, according to Page Six, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Brown was a California native born in San Francisco. She graduated from the University of Southern California and began her acting career soon after.

Brown’s soap opera career began in 1959 with a role on “From These Roots.” She went on to play parts on “The Young Marrieds,” “Bright Promise,” and “Return to Peyton Place.”

She joined “General Hospital” as Dr. Baldwin in 1977. She played Dr. Baldwin until 1985 when she left the show.

Even so, Brown continued to reprise her role as Dr. Baldwin over the years until she returned again in 1992. She was then a recurring character on the show.

When “General Hospital” launched its spin-off series “Port Charles,” Brown continued her role as Dr. Baldwin until 2004.

Brown was honored with a Daytime Emmy nomination in 1979 for Outstanding Supporting Actress on “General Hospital.”

Kin Shriner, known as Scotty Baldwin on the show, expressed his condolences for his cast mate and friend by taking to Twitter.

“Sad to say one of my best friends and costars Susan Brown passed away today. R.I.P. Susan I will miss all our laughs,” he said.

“General Hospital” Executive Producer Frank Valentini also posted on Twitter, “It’s a very sad day in Port Charles as the wonderful Susan Brown (“Gail Baldwin”) passed away today. My sincerest condolences to her family and to all who knew this amazing woman.”

Brown also appeared on TV in roles such as Adelaide Fitzgibbon on “As the World Turns,” Fran Whitaker on “The Young and the Restless,” Mrs. Cooper on “Beverly Hills 90210,” and Amber Edwards on “Frasier.”

When Brown wasn’t acting as Dr. Baldwin or the myriad of other characters she played throughout her lifetime, she ran a successful interior design firm. Here, she provided decorating advice and services to all her friends in the Hollywood area.

Brown was living in Los Angeles at the time of her death.

We wish deep condolences to Brown’s friends and family. She will be missed!
