Giant Wolf Dog at Kill Shelter Relocated to Sanctuary, Photos Leave Internet Swooning
Any large animal can be intimidating, but wolf dogs especially have the potential to scare off anyone who dares to come near.
Deep down, though, this breed still knows how to love. Although their size can be a lot to take and their behavior can present a challenge at times, they do have a sweet side, according to Wolf.org.
The volunteers at Shy Wolf Sanctuary can attest to this. They help care for these animals, and it requires a lot of patience to do so.
One wolf dog in particular who goes by the name “Yuki” has become quite the celebrity. His online photos are sending jaws dropping due to his seemingly massive size.
He’s definitely a mass, but staff member Brittany Allen assured her followers that Yuki isn’t as huge as he first appears.
Allen’s response to those who think Yuki’s image is Photoshopped is priceless.
“The face we make when people say Yuki’s picture is Photoshopped,” she wrote in the caption of one photo. “It’s just his fat angle guys. We all have one.”
According to Bored Panda, Allen is 5’4″ tall and Yuki weighs around 120 pounds. Maybe it is just a fat angle, but Yuki still looks pretty large to us.
“His DNA testing came back as 87.5 % Gray Wolf, 8.6 % Siberian Husky, and 3.9 % German Shepherd,” Allen told Bored Panda.
According to the Shy Wolf Sanctuary website, Yuki loves attention but also has a dominant side.
“Volunteers need to be able to read his body language and react quickly as he doesn’t always give a warning when ‘Mr. Hyde’ is going to appear,” the sanctuary says.
In 2008, Yuki was dropped at a kill shelter by his previous owner, a man who wasn’t able to care for the wolf dog because the man had brain tumors.
It is thanks to Shy Wolf Sanctuary that wolf dogs like Yuki have the care and love and patience they need. The shelter hopes to build a larger facility in the future.
