There’s a new top model in the world for the first time since 2002, and the name might be surprising.
Gisele Bundchen, whose husband is New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, can no longer claim to be the world’s highest-paid model. Instead, her crown has been claimed by Kendall Jenner.
According to Forbes’ annual list of top-paid models in the world, the 22-year-old reality star brought in $22 million from June 1, 2016, to June 1, 2017, compared to the 37-year-old Bundchen’s $17.5 million.

Last year’s rankings showed the Brazilian model brought in $30.5 million, revealing that her earnings have since dropped by roughly 43 percent. But the difference might not be due to Bundchen being paid less. Rather, she is taking on less work.
Bundchen retired from the catwalk last year, but still features in ads for high-end companies like Carolina Herrera fragrances and Vivara jewelery in Brazil, as noted by The U.K. Telegraph.

So how did Jenner claim the throne?
Jenner signed her first modelling contract with Wilhelmina Models when she was 14 years old. At that time, she was most famous within the teenage market across the United States.

She made her debut on the catwalk in 2014, walking for Marc Jacobs. She then took on contracts with companies like Chanel and Versace, which boosted her runway appearances.
Since then, the young model has been busy signing deals with Estee Lauder, Adidas and many other designer companies.
Jenner also has the Kendall + Kylie clothing line, which was co-founded by her sister, Kylie Jenner.
Kendall Jenner is the half-sister of Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian, who are known for the family reality show, “Keeping Up With The Kardashians.” Kendall first appeared on the show when she was 12.

Jenner also has a massive Instagram influence, with almost 85 million followers. Her endorsements on the social media platform have helped increase her gross income.
On Thanksgiving Day, Jenner tweeted out a few words to sum up how she was feeling.
The remainder of the Forbes list includes Chrissy Teigen, who raked in $13.5 million, and Adriana Lima, who earned $10.5 million. Gigi Hadid rounds up the top five with $9.5 million.
