OK, I get it. You’re already tired of Representative-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) and she hasn’t even taken office yet. Honestly, you were tired of her before she’d even won her race. She’s a nutty socialist and, every time she opens her mouth, something ridiculous flops out. You’ve had enough.
Well, buckle up kiddies. We’re just getting started. She’s the future of her party – its ‘young fresh face’ – so we’re going to be talking about her for years.
Today, she’s held a presser designed to push for the establishment of a “Green New Deal Committee.” The environmental effort, which isn’t particularly popular even among progressive Democrats, was recently outlined by the Huffington Post:

The Green New Deal committee, meant to include six Republicans, would be charged with drafting a 10-year federal infrastructure and jobs plan to neutralize the United States’ output of greenhouse gas emissions, adopt 100 percent renewable electricity and reduce widening income inequality. The resolution would likely seek to bar lawmakers who have accepted donations from fossil fuel companies from serving.
Despite the tepid reception her idea has garnered, Ocasio-Cortez thinks she can make it happen. That’s because, as she puts it, The United States is in the depths of darkness – but her election (and the election of others like her) is an awful lot like the moon landing and the passage of the civil rights act. So, she promises, we’re all going to be ok.

Yes, really.
She says that her efforts are “not just about a Green New Deal, this is about a new deal for the United States of America.”

She also claims that it will work “because in every moment where our country has reached the depths of darkness, in every moment, when we were at the brink, at the cusp, of an abyss, and we did not know if we could be capable of saving ourselves, we have.”
“We’ve done it,” she told a gaggle of supporters. “We’ve done what we thought was impossible. We went to the moon. We electrified the nation. We established civil rights. We enfranchised the country. We dug deep and we did it. We did it when no one else thought that we could. That’s what we did when so many of us won an election this year. That’s what so many of us did.”
Do you want a "green new deal?"
Yep, you heard that right. The election of a few “democratic socialists” is just like a few hundred thousand people coming together to plant an American flag on the moon, or the forced-passage of the civil rights act against the wishes of the Democratic party.
Here she is, in all her new-found glory:

Like I said, you’re going to be forced to endure years of these clips, so brace yourself.
We’re just getting started.
