HGTV Star Joanna Gaines Says Pregnancy Surprise at Age 40 Was 'A Gift'

The Gaines family has continued to capture the hearts of their fans by sharing pictures and updates on the newest addition to the dynamic family, Crews.

Crews Gaines was born on Saturday, June 23, 2018 and his parents have been smitten with him since.

“Our baby boy, Crew Gaines, is here and we couldn’t be more in love. He made an unexpected (and speedy) entrance into the world two and a half weeks early – which is fitting given he was a sweet surprise from day one,” Joanna announced on social media.

Since his birth, Chip and Joanna have shared sweet moments of the first few months of “number 5.” Drake, 13, Ella, 11, Duke, 9, and Emmie, 8, are extremely excited to have a younger brother to play with.

The HGTV stars found out that they were expecting little Crews shortly after making the decision to end their HGTV show, “Fixer Upper.”

In the eighth issue of Joanna’s quarterly magazine, The Magnolia Journal, she shared just how sweet this pregnancy has been.

“Chip and I made a choice to take some time off this past year because it seemed best for us in that season — even though we knew it would stretch us to stay still,” she wrote. “Only a few weeks later I found out I was pregnant.”

Joanna told People that even though she felt more worn out than her past pregnancies, she was excited for the opportunity to slow down and “relish” each moment.

Even with the HGTV show ending, Joanna and Chip are still extremely busy running an online store, furniture and home decor line, bakery, restaurant and magazine.

“This pregnancy forced me to truly rest, and I don’t know that I would have allowed myself to take a real break if not for this baby,” Joanna wrote in her magazine.

“It’s sweet how, even in the most unpredictable ways, we’re given exactly what we need for that exact moment in time,” Joanna continued. “It wasn’t something I could have anticipated. But being pregnant and ‘forced’ to slow down has been a gift.”

She never expected to be a new mom at 40-years-old, but she said that the timing was perfect. She even feels more confident this time around.

Joanna wrote, “I don’t know if it’s because I’m a little older, but this time around I am more comfortable in my own skin, sure that I can do this. Confident that I was made for this very thing in this very season.”
