Illegal Imprisoned After Attempting To Drown Border Patrol Agent
A Border Patrol agent was forced to fight for his life last year, and the illegal immigrant who tried to kill him is now behind bars after the judge made his ruling.
After pleading guilty late last year, Edgar Garrido-Miranda, has now been sentenced to 60 months in prison and will be forced to pay restitution of over $4,000, according to a Justice Department news release.
His five-year sentence is almost insulting, considering the circumstances that put him in prison.
In August of 2017, according to The Washington Times, Garrido-Miranda, a Mexican national, was attempting to enter the United States illegally through a creek in Texas.
The group he was traveling with caught the attention of Border Patrol agents, who intercepted them in the creek. The group ran, but not before Agent Leonardo Figueras Cruz could grab Garrido-Miranda.
The illegal surprised Cruz, and quickly had the agent’s entire body underwater.
The assaulted agent recounted his experience in court, The Washington Times reported.
“At this point, I realized I was fighting for my life,” he said.
Instead of drawing his gun, however, Cruz grabbed his flashlight and bashed the attacker’s head. Other agents soon swarmed Garrido-Miranda, ending the fight. In court, the Times reported, the judge commended the “agent’s restraint in not resorting to deadly force under the circumstances.”
The struggle left the agent with bruises, contusions, and a throat infected by dirty creek water, according to the DOJ release.
If you think five years seems like a light sentence for the brutality of this crime, you’re not alone. This was, without a doubt, an attempted murder of a Border Patrol agent.

Congress hasn’t acted on that yet.
A case like Garrido-Miranda’s should help erase their doubts.
