After Insulting Alabama Residents, Kamala Heads There To Shamelessly Beg for Their Votes

Share

Alabama recently passed one of the nation’s most pro-life measures to significantly restrict abortions and, quite predictably, abortion advocates across the country expressed their great displeasure at the move by attacking the state and a majority of its voters.

One of those advocates is Democratic 2020 candidate and California Sen. Kamala Harris, who has on multiple occasions taken direct aim at Alabama — and other states passing pro-life laws — and vowed to use her executive powers if elected to punish and exact revenge on such states for their restrictive anti-abortion measures.

During an MSNBC-hosted town hall event in South Carolina in late May, Harris said that states like Alabama that wanted to pass strict pro-life laws would have to seek the approval of her administration prior to doing so — a direct assault on state’s rights and an unmitigated effort to silence the voice of voters who elected the legislators passing such laws.

“So, when elected, I’m going to put in place and require that states that have a history of passing legislation that is designed to prevent or limit a woman’s access to reproductive health care, those laws have to come before my Department of Justice for a review,” Harris said.

Just a few days later, Harris again took aim at Alabama voters during a Planned Parenthood-sponsored event at the 2019 California Democratic Convention, where she essentially accused such voters of being heartless and uncaring about people once they’ve actually been born, Alabama Real-Time News reported.

“Those folks down in Alabama who are doing this, these are the same folks who, by the time that baby is born, they couldn’t care less,” Harris said. “What are they doing to support that mother and what she needs in terms of prenatal help?”

“They’re not doing a thing, but they’re trying to tell women what to do with their bodies. We’re going to tell them a thing or two,” she added in what many have viewed as a not-so-subtle threat.

Harris also promised that “we will not stop fighting until every woman in our country has the right and the ability to make a decision about … her own body.”

Considering Harris’ thinly-disguised enmity for the pro-life voters who predominate the state of Alabama and elected a majority of state representatives and senators that share their pro-life views, it came as a bit of a surprise to some that Harris is now about to begin campaigning in the state that she just threatened and insulted.

Will pro-abortion Democrats have trouble running in pro-life states?

Harris will be in Alabama on Friday to first participate in an event hosted by abortion advocacy group NARAL, followed by a keynote address to the state legislature’s black caucus luncheon as part of the annual Alabama Democratic Party Convention on Saturday, The Washington Free Beacon reported.

The news of Harris’ impending arrival to garner support among the state’s minority of pro-abortion Democratic voters didn’t sit particularly well with Republican Alabama Rep. Bradley Byrne, who as of now enjoys the backing of the Republican Party and President Donald Trump in a bid to challenge Democratic Sen. Doug Jones for the Senate seat in 2020.

Byrne took exception to how Harris had characterized his state and voters and suggested the California senator should be more concerned with the substantial problems in her own state instead of sticking her nose in Alabama’s business.

“I’m sick of out-of-state liberal elitists trying to lecture us here in Alabama,” Byrne told The Washington Free Beacon.

“I’m proud our state is leading the fight to protect the unborn, and we don’t need liberal politicians like Senator Harris telling us how to run our state or what to believe,” he said.

“Instead of launching attacks on our state, these liberal elites should take care of the very serious issues in their own backyards and leave Alabama alone.”

The last thing most Alabama voters want is a liberal elitist dropping in to pander for their vote after essentially slamming their state as backward and in need of federal intervention.

There is a vast difference between Alabama and California, and elitist know-it-all Democrats like Harris would be wise to consider that what flies in Hollywood and San Francisco doesn’t typically transfer well to Birmingham and Montgomery — and those differences should be respected by politicians of the so-called party of acceptance and tolerance.
