Jordy Nelson posts goodbye to Green Bay. Final 3 words leave Packers fans hopeful

Share

The NFL might first and foremost be a business, but still, it always stings when a team has to part ways with a beloved player who has been a stalwart for years.

So Packers fans were understandably upset when Green Bay released wide receiver Jordy Nelson earlier this month. Nelson had been with the Packers since 2008, when he was drafted out of Kansas State.

Nelson was amazing for the vast majority of his Packers career. A favorite target of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, he caught a total of 558 passes for 7,848 yards. Nelson eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark four times and had 69 total touchdown receptions.

But all good things must come to an end, and the Packers decided the 32-year-old receiver wasn’t worth his big salary anymore. Now, Nelson will be catching passes from Derek Carr, as he signed with the Oakland Raiders soon after his release.

Nelson, though, wasn’t going to leave Green Bay without saying goodbye.

In a Friday morning Twitter post, he thanked Packers fans for their support, and noted that Wisconsin “will always be a part” of his and his family’s lives.

It was the last three words of his post, however, that left Green Bay fans hopeful that this wasn’t a permanent goodbye.

“Packers Fans, my family and I would like to say THANK YOU for your support over the last 10 yrs,” Nelson began. “We have been blessed to call Green Bay our home and WI will always be a part of our lives. We have many great memories and it’s the people we will miss the most.”

Then, with three words and an ellipses, he gave Packers fans hope.

“Until next time……” he wrote.

Packers fans displayed a mix of emotions in response to those last three words.

Do you think Jordy Nelson will ever return to Green Bay?

Fans weren’t the only ones sorry to see Nelson go.

After finding out that Nelson was going to be released, Rodgers posted an emotional message to Instagram.

“Hard to find the right words today to express what 87 means to me. No teammate exemplified what it means to be a packer quite like him. From living in GB full time, his incredible contributions to the city, state, and region, to his consistent, reliable play on the field,” Rodgers said.

“Definitely a sad day and the toughest part of this business. There will never be another quite like white lightning,” he added.
