Age 9 & Age 11 Boys See Full Grown Man Drowning in Pond, Pull Him From Water
It was a beautiful day in Concord, Massachusetts, perfect for spending time at Walden Pond with friends.
That’s what 9-year-old Herman Tsakhaev and 11-year-old Bodie Thompson planned on doing on June 10. They met that day and decided to paddleboard and kayak together.
Bodie’s mother, Sehnaz Thompson, was watching her son from the shore and wanted him to stay in her sight.
She soon noticed that Bodie was starting to paddle toward the area she asked him not to go.
“I started kind of, like, panicking,” she told the Boston Globe.
She had no idea that her son and his new friend were saving someone’s life.
As the boys were paddling around the pond, they noticed a man who looked like he was struggling to swim.
“He was drowning, I think,” Herman said. The two boys decided to paddle over to help the man.
Together, the young boys helped the man and pulled him onto Herman’s kayak. Once he was steady, they paddled him to the shore, where a crowd of people cheered for the boys’ brave actions.
They believe that the man got a leg cramp while swimming.
“It happens often,” Herman said. “His leg looked very pale.”
Bodie’s mother was shocked to see that her young son saved a man from drowning.
“I was like, you just saved someone’s life — that’s incredible,” she said.
The Concord Fire Department was happy to arrive at the scene with a life saved.
“When we go down there, it’s not always a great outcome,” Captian Bill Noke said. “It’s always nice when we have an outcome like this.”
A huge shout out to Herman and Bodie who were paddle boarding on Walden Pond today- they recognized an adult swimmer in distress and rescued him, assisting him to the shore until CFD, @MassDCR and @LincolnMA_Fire arrived on scene to prove aid. The boys said that anyone in their position would do what they can to help. Thanks to their bravery, they were able to save a man’s life.
