Baby Found Abandoned in Plastic Bag. Female Police Officer Saves Him From Starvation
Many babies are abandoned in India every year, oftentimes when a mother is poverty-stricken and can’t afford to take care of them.
One baby was found on June 1 in a plastic bag by a construction site in Bengaluru’s Electronic City.
The police were notified by a shopkeeper who noticed the baby near the construction site.
“The baby was in bad shape. He was covered in blood, and the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck,” Assistant Sub-Inspector Nagesh R told The Hindu.
He took the baby to a local hospital to get checked out and make sure the vitals were okay.
Nagesh brought the baby back to the station, where new mother police constable Archana felt connected with him immediately.
“I just couldn’t bear it,” she said. “I felt like my child was crying and I had to feed the baby.”
Archana made the decision to help the baby by breastfeeding him. After feeding him, the baby soon started to cry loudly.
The policewoman’s caring actions helped save that little baby’s life.
The locals gave the little boy the name “little Kumaraswamy” after the state’s newest chief minister. They think of him as the “government’s baby.”
“It is the government’s baby now, and we decided to name him Kumaraswamy as it would be under the care of the government,” Mr. Nagesh told The Hindu.
The police took little Kumaraswamy to the children’s home, Shishu Mandir.
For this baby, it didn’t seem like he was going to live long, but thankfully this caring police officer helped give him a second chance at life.
