4-Year-Old Mails Birthday Cake to Mommy in Heaven Thanks to Help from Post Office

How do you show someone you love them? Do you give them a hug? Send them flowers? Write them a note?

And how do you make it especially clear on their birthday that you’re thinking of them, even if you’re miles away?

You probably send them something in the mail. With giants like Amazon, all it takes is a few clicks, a form of payment and an address, and your special someone will receive a tangible reminder of their place in your life.

But what do you do if that person is not merely miles away, but has already passed on?

Plenty of people have traditions they maintain to honor their deceased loved ones, and one cute little girl has just started another.

Bella Graham is 4 years old and cute as a button. She’s already spent half her life without someone who’s really important to her: her mom.

Unfortunately, Bella’s mom passed away two years ago from a pulmonary embolism, leaving her mom, Laura Fisher, to look after her precious daughter.

Bella knew her mother’s birthday was coming up, and began to grow concerned that her mom might not get a cake up in heaven.

“She was becoming stressed about it,” her grandmother, Fisher, said, “so I decided to tell her we could mail a cake to her (mom) in heaven.”

Fortunately grandma was an accomplished baker, and helped little Bella put together a cake for her mother, Jessica.

Just to make sure their plan would go smoothly, Fisher contacted the post office ahead of time to run her idea by them.

The workers loved the idea and were more than willing to help. On Monday the grandmother and granddaughter duo made the trip to the post office, where they were greeted by in-the-know postal workers.

The workers went so far as to create a line just for people who were sending packages to heaven, and Bella’s gift was stamped and guaranteed to arrive at its destination.

“Bella has done fairly well overall,” Fisher said, “but she will struggle her entire life with this loss—we all will.”

“Losing a child is indescribable, I just keep moving forward for Bella’s sake. We all talk about her mommy regularly to Bella so she will have some sense of knowing her mommy.”

With a very happy Bella in tow, Fisher left the post office with a smile and thankfulness for the cooperation of the staff.

“They have no idea how much it meant to her to be able to do that for her mom,” she said.
