6-Year-Old Boy Asks Mom To Make 'I Will Be Your Friend' Shirt So Bullied Kids Don't Feel Alone

Plenty of good ideas get sidelined because there’s no way to make those good ideas a reality. Making things happen requires both planning and action.

But one mother-son duo had the perfect setup to realize the young man’s dream. Blake, 6, wanted a shirt with a particular message on it, and his mother happened to own a printing business.

“My name is Nikki Rajahn,” the mother’s “About” page on Facebook reads. “I am a stay at home mother of 4 young kids and my husband has helped me to tap into my creative side to start Unfading Adornments, a small business specializing in personalization of just about anything. I am able to do shirts, hats, tote bags, decals, canvases, party decorations, and so much more.”

“I have to brag on my son,” she wrote. “I told him that as a back to school gift, I will make him any shirt he would like.

“It could have anything — a basketball theme, football, etc. which are all his favorites. He thought a while and said, ‘will you please make me a shirt that says ‘I will be your friend’ for all the kids who need a friend to know that I am here for them?’ Never underestimate your kid’s heart for others!”

She shared the photo that shows her beaming son proudly wearing an orange shirt with his desired message in green letters.

“I want to make sure that kids that are bullied know they have a friend already,” Blake said, according to WCNC.

What began as a mom sharing her son’s heart turned into a movement. People started commenting that they would like a shirt like that for their own child or even for themselves.

On Aug. 1. Rajahn posted an update.

“Y’all. Ever since I posted about my son and his shirt, I have sold some and told Blake about it.

“He said, ‘Oh good! Now more and more people are going to have more and more friends!’ He is just so flattered so many want to be his twin too. Thank you for your sweet comments about him and like and share so more and more people can have more and more friends! PM me for your friend shirt!”

More people started expressing their interest, and soon Rajahn had to adapt to keep up with demand.

“If anyone would like an ‘I will be your friend’ shirt, the response has been overwhelming,” she wrote on August 2. “I am so excited y’all have joined me in this movement! Please standby for an updated pricing and choices so that we can do this as efficiently as possible.

“A portion of all proceeds will be donated to the Real Life Center PM me if you would like one #blakesfriends. Your stories are phenomenal and have touched our family as well. Thank you all <3”

Hopefully, as the new school year starts, there will be plenty of kids wearing these shirts and making friends. What a lovely idea, and what a thoughtful young man!
