Blake Shelton Goes Off Script at Awards, Calls Girlfriend Gwen Stefani to Stage

Share

Common wisdom tells us that we shouldn’t date our coworkers. Relationships and especially break-ups can cause strife when they involve people who work at the same place.

In spite of that advice, people have dated — and will continue to date — people they meet at work. What other circle do you spend as much time in? You get to know the people you work with really well.

And sometimes, it works out. It certainly has for Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani.

The two met on “The Voice” in April 2014, according to Billboard, where they were coaches alongside Pharrell Williams and Adam Levine. By November of that year, the two were close friends, but neither were available.

At the time, Shelton was married to Miranda Lambert, and Stefani was married to Gavin Rossdale, but 2015 brought an end to their respective relationships and they turned to each other.

The rumors were validated in November 2015, when the two were officially recognized as a couple. The next few years saw them singing together, confiding in each other, and basically annoying the people around them by how in love they were.

All along the way, of course, there’s been a new set of rumors regarding marriage for the high-profile couple. Stefani alluded to being interested in marriage, but hasn’t said anything concrete.

There are posts on social media all the time from Shelton to Stefani and vice versa, as they both rave about the other’s skills and talent. But no ring. Yet.

It’s understandable, then, that during the People’s Choice Awards this year, fans were expecting something might happen when Shelton and Carson Daly accepted an award for “The Voice” and called Stefani up.

The two chatted a bit onstage before Shelton had to bring up Stefani who, like any dedicated girlfriend, was there cheering her boyfriend on from the crowd.

“All-time favorite coach, right there, Gwen Stefani,” Shelton said, according to People. “I love her.”

Not willing to stand by and watch an opportunity pass, Daly egged the two on, encouraging Stefani to come up on stage, too. “You wanna come up?” he asked her. “Come up and say a few [words]. Come on up!”

“Oh my God, I’m so excited to be with Blake Shelton!” she said when she finally made it to the stage. Viewers everywhere held their breath as they wondered if this was a set-up for a public proposal — but the moment passed without any questions being popped.

Still, the two musician’s declarations of love are heartwarming — and fans are still on the lookout for anything that might signal impending nuptials.
