Brave 6-Year-Old Girl Helps Save Life of Toddler Blue in Face Drowning in Pool

With summer officially in full swing, days at the pool and beach are much-anticipated outings. Whether it’s just to enjoy the water or to beat the heat, people of all ages enjoy swimming and/or lounging waterside.

But the water is inherently dangerous. We need water to survive, but unless you have proper training and awareness it can pose a serious threat.

Along with the warnings about hot cars and how you shouldn’t leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle, summer brings sad stories of lives lost in the water.

Thanks to a young girl named Everly, one child has been saved. Everly, who is 6 years old, was swimming in a pool at an RV park in Elberta, Alabama, over the weekend.

As she was swimming around, she saw a young boy who didn’t look quite right. She said his face was in the water and his back was floating.

Concerned, the young girl made her way to the boy and tried to get his attention. She poked him and patted him, but he still wasn’t responding.

At that point, Everly caught the attention of some women nearby and alerted them to the drowning boy.

A woman started dragging the boy out of the water by his arm, and that’s when Everly’s grandpa, Buck Carter, saw what was happening.

Fortunately, Carter used to be a paramedic, so he knew just how to respond. He rushed onto the scene to help.

“I noticed a commotion at the end of the shallow end and looked over and saw a woman pulling a small child out of the pool by his arm,” he said.

At that point, the boy’s face was blue. He had no pulse. It wasn’t looking good for him.

Carter himself did not perform CPR, but he coached someone on how to do it properly and made sure to keep the boy’s airway open.

“I coached him in the proper way to do it and I held his airway open and after about two minutes of CPR his color came back and he began to breathe,” Carter said. “He woke up and started crying.”

Looks like heroism runs in the family! Thanks to the swift actions of this granddaughter/grandpa duo, one less life was claimed by the water this swimming season.
