Competitive Twins Earn Highest Honors: Named Valedictorian and Salutatorian of Graduating Class

There’s almost always a sense of competition between siblings. Even those who get along swimmingly have a need to prove themselves. While sometimes it can get out of hand, a little competition can be healthy.

Just ask Deontae and Deontrae Wright of Toledo, Ohio. Not only are the two teens siblings, but they are also identical twins, and their closeness is emphasized by their names.

They’ve done a little bit of everything, and have the grades and experiences to prove it. Both teens have two jobs, 70+ hours of community service, and outstanding grades.

“To me, giving back is a way I could not only feel good as a person but also help change the community,” Deontae told WTVG.

Their grades have earned them the coveted titles of Scott High School’s Class of 2019 Valedictorian and Salutatorian — but they definitely had to work for those recognitions.

“We both like to compete against each other,” Deontrae said. “We want to score higher than each other.”

That’s what helped them end up with a 4.5 GPA (for Deontae), and a 4.4 GPA (for Deontrae). That .1 difference might not mean much to other students who’d be happy with just passing, but to them, it made all the difference.

“It feels awesome knowing that I put in the hard work and got something out of it,” Deontae said. “It feels great at the end of the day.”

“Our GPA’s would switch back and forth,” Deontae allegedly said, “It feels awesome knowing that I put in the work and got something out of it. It feels great at the end of the day.”

It is fitting, in a way, that Deontae ended up with the slightly higher score, since he was also technically the firstborn. These two have big plans for the future and plan to join forces to compete against other companies in the business world.

“After high school, we both want to major in electrical engineering and own our own engineering firm,” Deontrae said.

Their accomplishments have earned them both full rides to Ohio State University, where they’ll no doubt keep up the same friendly competition and make names for themselves.
