Cries from Puppy Heard Underground, Rescuers Face Gas Poisoning in Attempt To Save It

Tunnels can be dark, cramped, and full of who-knows-what. They’re definitely claustrophobia-inducing places.

We drive through them occasionally, but as a general rule, most people tend to avoid any smaller holes in the ground. Even going down into sewers is dirty, time-consuming and cramped work.

But what if it’s a puppy that fell down into a tunnel system and needed someone to work their way in to free the poor creature?

In Novosibirsk, Russia, two young men filmed themselves lowering into a tunnel system and attempting to reach a poor, shaking puppy that had been trapped there for some time.

“It was a very hard rescue operation,” the caption with the video stated. “My friend and I are diggers, we like researching underground shelters and other underground objects.”

They apparently have a reputation for exploratory missions and going where other people would rather not go, and they were adamant about reaching the pup when they were contacted about the situation.

“People called us because they heard a crying puppy underground,” the description continued.

But even as they tried to reach the trapped dog, they faced unforeseen circumstances. As they crawled through the pipe, trying to avoid smacking their heads and crawling over dust, bricks, and other debris, they realized there was gas in the pipe.

“We tried to help him three times. The first and second time we failed and we got gas poisoning and felt sick.”

The video shows them hyperventilating as they crawled, risking their own safety in their efforts. The third attempt was successful.

The young man who reached the pup took a moment to let the frightened dog adjust to him, calling out to it and patting the pup gently. Trembling, the puppy looked at him but didn’t try to run away.

Once he had the dog safe in his arms, he made his way back to the entrance, where his friend hauled up the puppy first and then the rescuer.

A man checked the pup out, and they offered it some food. Then they took it to a shelter.

That’s where the story ends for us, but hopefully the brave rescuers were able able to give the pup a much better chance at finding a loving and caring owner.
