Dog Gives Birth in Couple’s Car Just Hours After They Rescue Her from Kill Shelter

Share

When most people are on vacation, they’re focused on enjoying the sights and flavors of the place they’re visiting. If you’re a dog lover, you probably notice any pooches parading by and think of your own pups waiting for you at home.

But if you’re used to opening up your home to needy animals like Rebecca Lynch is, you may go beyond admiring from afar and end up bringing home a new furry friend.

Rebecca and Kevin Lynch had been on vacation in Savannah, Georgia, when they heard about a little mixed-breed dog who was in dire straits. She had heartworms, a broken leg and was pregnant.

“I know that Georgia has a lot of rural, high-kill shelters and I knew I wanted to save the neediest dog from a shelter before I went home,” Lynch told The Dodo.

“I had space in my car and wanted to help.”

“Kevin Lynch and I just had a wonderful, memory-making weekend in Savannah with some of our dearest friends,” Rebecca wrote on Facebook.

“On our way home…we just scooped up this precious nugget, Lizzy.

“She was surrendered to a high-kill shelter, very pregnant, afraid and confused. Lizzy is a gentle, sweet love and she is safe now!

“She’ll head to our vet tomorrow and we’ll make sure she’s giving birth in a comfortable, stress-free environment. If you’d like to help Lizzy and her puppies-to-be, please visit us at www.PPRFL.org to donate towards their care. Lizzy thanks you!”

Though they’d picked up one very pregnant dog, by the time they got home, they had an additional six adorable puppies on their hands. Lizzy had decided to give birth in their car!

Rebecca posted photos and updates on her post, and she mentioned that they made a quick stop at the vet’s on the way home to make sure everyone was doing well.

“We can’t even go on vacation without helping a dog (or seven)!” the Poodle and Pooch Rescue of Florida shared on Facebook on May 22.

“Our president, Rebecca Lynch – The Rescue Realtor, was on vacation this weekend in Savannah.”

“We’re happy to report that the little family is doing well, but they are going to require a lot of vetting and care,” the rescue added.

“Lizzy is a doll,” Lynch told The Dodo. “Bless her heart, with all that she’s been through in her short life, she is so loving and trusting. She is a gentle and loving soul. Pretty remarkable.”
