Flight Attendant Breastfeeds Hungry Baby After Passenger Runs Out of Formula Mid-Flight

In this world of instant judgments and endless critiquing possibilities, it’s nice to focus on creating bonds with people rather than preventing them from forming in the first place.

There are a lot of natural connections humans form every day: wordless agreements between people that draw them together in an instant.

You’ve experienced this before, whether it’s because you see someone in your checkout line buying the same obscure coffee you love, walking with your dog and seeing another person out with their pup, or being a mom and seeing another mom struggling.

There’s an instant bond. Your heart goes out to them. You’d help them if you could.

One mother was in desperate need of help when she realized she hadn’t packed quite right. Traveling with a young child is always stressful, but this mother had the odds stacked against her.

First, she was alone. No one to hand the baby off to in order to take a quick break or arrange her belongings.

Second, according to Smart Parenting, the woman had been waiting at the airport for a 5:10 a.m. flight since 9 p.m. the night before. That can’t sound like fun to anyone, especially not a mom.

Third, she ran out of formula partway through the flight. Her month-old baby was hungry, but she had nothing to give her child — until one of the flight attendants stepped up.

“(Yesterday), I was scheduled for a check flight to be qualified as a Cabin Crew Evaluator,” flight attendant and mother Patrisha Organo later posted on Facebook. “I thought that this flight’s gonna be so special as this is a big step on my flying career.”

“Everything went smoothly until after take off, I heard an infant’s cry, a cry that will make you want to do anything to help. I approached the mother and asked if everything’s okay, I tried to tell her to feed her hungry child.”

That’s when Organo realized that the stressed mother had nothing more to feed her baby, and that they didn’t have anything on board for the baby, either.

Passengers had started to show some annoyance when Organo and her Line Administrator came up with an idea that they ran by the child’s mother.

“I felt a pinch in my heart,” Organo wrote. “There’s no formula milk onboard. I thought to myself, there’s only one thing I could offer and that’s my own milk. And so I offered.”

The mom agreed to the offer, and Organo fed the hungry baby. She posted a photo of herself nursing the infant, and made sure to cover the baby’s face to keep its identity hidden.

“I saw the relief on her mother’s eyes,” the post continued. “I continued to feed the baby until she fell asleep. I escorted her back to her seat and just before I left, the mother sincerely thanked me.”

“I breastfed a stranger’s baby inflight. Thank you, Lord for the gift of mother’s milk.”

Organo was able to help a mother in a desperate position, but she was also qualified as an evaluator — it was a good day for all involved.
