Heroic Grandparents of 6-Year-Old Girl Reportedly Fight Off Intruder During Attempted Kidnapping

Grandparents are known to be the most doting party in a child’s life. They get to spoil their grandkids in a way that parents just don’t.

But if you ever try to cross a grandparent concerning their grandchild, you will experience a world of pain that you never knew was possible.

A set of grandparents in Lebanon, Indiana, got a major scare on June 3 when a 37-year-old man reportedly got into their downtown apartment and told Martin and Patricia Roth that he was taking their 6-year-old granddaughter.

“I was sound asleep in my bedroom and this guy came kicking in and said, ‘You have my daughter,'” Patricia said, according to WXIN.

“I was nervous, very nervous,” she added. “I was shaking so bad.”

WTHR reported that the grandparents “fought him off” and “kept him away from the girl.” Thankfully, Martin managed to get the man, Benjamin Dillon, out of the apartment.

When police arrived, Dillon had slightly changed his tune, claiming now that not only was the girl his daughter, but that she was being abused.

Dillon was suspected to have been on drugs. Shirtless and blathering on about the Roth’s granddaughter being “his daughter,” he claimed she was also being raped in the apartment.

He did not calm down, threatening to fight and kill the police, according to a report from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office cited by WTHR.

It took quite a bit of force to subdue the unruly man, and while no one in the apartment was injured, Dillon left the scene bloody and belligerent.

“I wouldn’t want him walking back in my apartment again,” Patricia shared. “He will regret it the next time.”

“I don’t understand why he picked our apartment. I’ll never figure that one out,” she said.

Despite the horrific incident and her lack of interest in ever seeing the violent intruder again, Patricia seems to hold out hope that he gets his act back together.

“I hope he gets the help he needs and I hope he gets himself back on his feet,” she said.
