McDonald’s Goes Above and Beyond To Help Family During Dog’s Final Hours, Says Owner
When a beloved family pet nears its final days, many owners go out of their way to make those last days the best days.
Some people have created bucket lists, some take their dogs on road trips and some spoil them with their favorite food — which often happens to be burgers.
Ground beef can be good for your four-legged friend. PetMd says that “Lean ground beef (or hamburger) is a third lean protein commonly given to pets.”
“Rich in essential amino acids, minerals and vitamins, lean ground beef is also an excellent diet food for pets. It too, however, should be consumed cooked. Raw meat may contain bacteria that could be harmful to your pet.”
However, most of the time the most accessible form of ground beef is in fast-food burgers. Arguably not the healthiest food for dogs (or people), but when you’re indulging your pup before saying a final farewell, that’s the least of your concerns.
Meteorologist David Yeomans recently had to bid farewell to a furry family member. A 13-year-old black Labrador, Maggie was nearing her time, and the Yeomans family wanted to make her last morning perfect.
They ran into a bit of a snag, but her owner credits some kind people at a local McDonald’s for giving Maggie the send-off she deserved. Yeomans posted about her and the kind deed, breaking up his normal routine of weather-related posts with this heartwarming one.
“I’m not one to post terribly personal things on here, but I wanted to give the folks at the S. Congress / Ben White McDonald’s a special shout-out for something they did for me on a very emotional day today,” he began.
“Hopefully the internet will work its magic, and they’ll know how much I appreciate them.
“After almost 13 great years with our family, it was time to put our sweet black lab Maggie to rest today.
“One of Maggie’s favorite birthday / road trip treats was a McDonald’s hamburger. I wanted Maggie to have a perfect morning, so I thought she should have one more burger before our visit to Austin Urban Vet Center.”
As anyone who’s tried to order burgers in the morning knows, McDonald’s doesn’t start serving them up until 10:30 a.m. Maggie’s appointment was at 9:30, causing a clear problem.
“I called and asked the manager if they would make an exception to their rule, just this once,” Yeomans continued. “They did. And their simple gesture made Maggie’s last morning with us a little more special.
“Kindness still exists out there. Pass it along,” he concluded.
The post received an outpouring of support and condolences. Yeomans revealed in a comment that he cried both while writing the original post and while reading everyone’s kind remarks.
“This also made its way to the owner of that McDonald’s franchise, who is passing the praise to his manager,” Yeomans wrote. “Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
“Our pets are a huge part of our lives,” Allen Benton, a McDonald’s Owner/Operator in the Austin, Texas, area told Liftable, a section of The Western Journal.
“We are so sorry for the family’s loss and are humbled we were able to help in a small way.”
