Son Stunned When Lost Wallet Returned in Mail with Note, Finds Extra Cash Inside
Most people assume that if they lose something, it’s gone forever. Phones, wallets and car keys are some of the most commonly fretted-over items, and losing any of them can make life much more difficult.
Wallets are a goldmine for would-be thieves. Credit cards, personal information, cash — what’s not to like? Plus, if you’ve been travelling, there’s little chance you’ll be able to trace your steps or remember where you might have lost it.
When one young man named Hunter lost his wallet recently, he probably didn’t expect to see it again. He’d been traveling with family to a wedding in Las Vegas, and somewhere along the way lost track of the wallet.
“On our way to Vegas for my daughters (sic) wedding last week, Hunter lost his wallet,” Jeannie Shamatt, his mother, posted on Facebook on Nov. 15.
“Unfortunately it had 60.00 cash, his identification card, his signed paycheck and his debit card. Once we realized the wallet was missing, we called Frontier Airlines to see if someone turned it in.”
No one had. But fortunately for Hunter, someone on a flight after his found the wallet and decided to do one better than just turning the wallet in.
During this time of the year, money can get tight as we try to make it through the holidays, enjoying ourselves and bringing joy to others. Plus, Frontier is a budget airline — but nothing about what the finder did was Scrooge-like or penny-pinching.
“After fearing the worst that everything was gone, tonight Hunter received a package in the mail with his wallet and a letter signed with only initials,” Shamatt’s post continued.
“On the envelope a return address out of Omaha from Applied Underwriters. We would love to thank the individual personally if we could find him or her. Please help share this post so we can find this amazing person.”
The note was written in blue ink on a piece of lined paper. “Hunter, Found this on a Frontier flight from Omaha to Denver — row 12, seat F wedged between the seat and wall,” it began. “Thought you might want it back. All the best.
“PS. I rounded your cash up to an even $100 so you could celebrate getting your wallet back. HAVE FUN!!!”
After the story was picked up and circulated, the Shamatts were able to get into contact with the good Samaritans responsible for the act of generosity. The mother once again posted on Facebook to reveal a little more of the story.
“Here is an update,” she wrote on Nov. 19, “my story made news in Omaha, while this was happening I was able to connect with the persons that returned Hunters wallet.
“I try to teach my children to do the right things in life, help people when you can regardless of the out come. This story is more about restoring faith in people than anything. Everything in the wallet we could of replaced.
“We hear a lot of bad news but not enough good news. I personally want to thank Todd Brown and his wife for restoring faith that there are amazing people out there, the world is not as grim as it’s being made out to be.”
