Toddler Panics After Getting Head 'Stuck' in Chair, Then Frees Herself by Standing Up

Share

Kids are terrifyingly inventive. They have the whole world before them and as soon as they start crawling, they start getting into everything.

You have to keep your eye on them constantly because you never know what antics they’ll get up to.

Things that were never meant to be used as toys can — and will — be used as such. Pieces of furniture that you thought were totally harmless will turn into prison cells.

Take this young fellow, for example. He found some ingenious way to crawl under a dresser and then shimmy his way up behind the drawers.

After he realizes what’s happened, he does what any self-respecting kid would do: he calls for help. And when dad shows up, he asks for mom’s help instead (typical).

But unfortunately for him, mommy is taking a nap, probably trying to rest and recover from just this sort of thing. Dad, of course, sees the humor in the situation and films his discovery.

All that’s visible of the young adventurer is a shoe peeking out from under a dresser, then a hand snaking its way between the dresser drawers, and finally his face when dad takes out the top drawer to reveal his son’s hiding spot.

Kudos to Charlie for remaining calm and clearly explaining his awkward situation to his dad without losing his cool or panicking.

This next kiddo is not nearly so calm. She’s managed to get stuck in an innocuous piece of household furniture: a dining chair.

They’re in a quandary. How in the world did she manage to get her head stuck in there? And how in the world are they going to get her out?

She’s tried every angle she can think of as relatives hover nearby, ready to disassemble the chair to free her. But despite an electric drill and a screwdriver, they can’t seem to detach the legs to free her.

“You’ll laugh about it when you get out,” says the woman recording the video. The girl, however, is not convinced of that in the slightest.

“I can’t!” she wails. “I will never get out!”

Despite their best efforts, she remains stuck, distraught and not very happy about being filmed. A boy, presumably her little brother, tries to help out too by tugging at a chair leg and adding his own suggestions, but she’s anchored pretty well.

Then they realize how she got in there in the first place. She’d gone in backward, legs-first, which is why her head was not budging. She’d managed to get the rest of her body through the narrow support dowels, but not her head.

Once they realized this, the solution was simple: just crawl back out! Once she was free, she was relieved, and hopefully, she will be able to look back on this ordeal and see the humor in it!
