Woman Adopts Puppy After Witnessing the 6-Week-Old Being Thrown from a Moving Car

Do you keep an eye out for pets wandering on their own? Are you part of neighborhood Facebook groups designed to reunite animals and their owners?

Perhaps you even keep slip leads and dog treats in your car, just in case the opportunity to help retrieve a wayward critter comes up. And once we catch a loose dog, we hope that there are owners somewhere waiting to get their beloved pet back.

Amber Rosas recently encountered a very different situation. She saw someone toss a puppy out of a car as they drove by.

This was not a full-grown dog that had had time to develop bad habits (which still wouldn’t have made its owner’s actions excusable) — this was a fluffy, adorable, 6-week-old puppy.

Most of us wouldn’t hesitate to do what Amber Rosas did: Stop immediately and rescue the poor little ball of fur.

“I instantly started crying when I grabbed the puppy and got in my vehicle,” she told KABB, “and I called my boyfriend and I told him — well, I was trying to explain but I was kind of crying.”

“And I told him what I had seen and how I just felt my heart break.”

She also said that while another person had seen the incident and also stopped to check on the animal, it was ultimately Rosas who took the German Shepherd mix to Animal Care Services.

The City of San Antonio Animal Care Services states that its mission is to “provide the most humane, progressive, and innovative animal care and control for the citizens of San Antonio — both those with two legs — and four.”

They also offer “a wide range of services for San Antonio residents” in order to provide “enhanced enforcement,” “control of the roaming animal population,” improve “the Live Release rate,” and “engage and educate the community.”

Even though the pup was in good hands at ACS, Rosas couldn’t stop thinking about him. She even visited him several times, and it wasn’t long before she realized she couldn’t live without him.

She is adopting the little puppy, and will no doubt give him a better life than what he’s known so far.
