Woman Would Have Burned Alive if Samaritan Hadn't Saved Her After Being Hit by Drunk Driver

The holidays require a lot of traveling. Unless you’re the one tasked with hosting the get-togethers, chances are you’ll be doing a good bit of driving to get to your destinations.

With that comes a lot of people out on the roads who shouldn’t be, leading to tragic accidents.

For the Green family, the holidays will always be a time of gratitude that one of their family members is still alive despite a horrific driving accident.

Andrea Green was traveling from Colorado to Oregon with her dog, Theodore, for Thanksgiving. The 28-year-old made it through a part of Utah before encountering a terrifying sight.

“As I came around a turn I saw lights coming at me in my lane and I was really confused,” Green said, according to KOBI. “Everything happened really fast.”

The oncoming drunk driver plowed into her, killing her dog and pinning her inside of her totaled vehicle. A fire broke out.

“My leg was crushed and stuck against my dashboard,” Green said.

If someone didn’t help — and quickly — she would’ve burned to death.

But when passerby and stranger Blake Grundvig saw what happened, he pulled off to the side of the road to help. He didn’t know if the woman was still alive or not, but he put out the fire using a fire extinguisher he had in his car.

Both Drea and her mother know that Grundvig is the reason Andrea is alive today, and they are both incredibly grateful for his intervention.

“One of the guys that was trying to help her, he ran to his car and he got a… fire extinguisher out and put the fire out before the fire department got there,” her mother, Diane, told KSL. “I feel like he saved her life.”

“Blake had a fire extinguisher and put it out and so that literally saved my life. I would have burned to death,” Andrea admitted.

“When I saw the pictures of her car, you can’t help but just be amazed,” her mother said. “It was a miracle that she made it through it.”

The road of recovery will be long and Andrea is mourning the loss of her dog, but the fact that she is alive is enough for this family.

And, despite the horrific accident, Andrea is counting her blessings.

“I get to be here with my family even longer than I expected,” she said. “It’s just… thank you, everyone… it’s just been so great.”
