Women Bust Out Dresses They Never Thought They'd Wear Again for 'Mom Prom'

Share

Prom is a special time for many people, something they can look forward to with anticipation or look back on with intense feelings of one sort or another. It’s a little sad that the massive, organized, dress-up parties tend to drop off after high school, though there are similar events in college, and a wedding party is pretty similar in some ways.

But when you’re well and truly an adult, with kids of your own and a busy life, the term “prom” just doesn’t seem to apply — until now.

The Great Lakes Bay “Mom Prom” was held on Feb. 23, and it appears that a great time was had by all. This wasn’t just partying for partying’s sake, either: These moms joined together to have a good time and raise money for a good cause.

Tickets quickly sold out online, but more were available at the door. The tickets went for $45 a pop and benefited the Family & Children’s Services of Mid-Michigan.

Everything you’d think of as being related to a prom was there: sparkle, glitz, glam, food, music and dancing — probably the only difference was the age of the women and the strength of the drinks.

“A ‘Mom Prom’ is a massive girls’ night out – a chance for women 21 and older to get together and dance, eat, drink, talk, laugh, pose for pictures, relive some of their own glory days and make new memories,” the Our Story section of the Great Lakes Bay Mom Prom Facebook page reads. “Even though it is a ‘Prom to Help Moms’, all women 21 and up are invited, you do not need to be a mom to attend.”

“This is a full prom with a DJ, dance floor, appetizer buffet, and FUN! It’s also a fun way to support an important cause because all funds raised support the mission of Family & Children’s Services including our Pregnancy and Post-Pregnancy services. This really is a ‘Prom to Help Moms.'”

“Tickets include a swag bag (for the first 200 ticket purchasers), appetizer buffet, soft drinks, candy bar, and admission into the event.”

“We will have contests, a silent auction, a green screen photo booth and more! A cash bar is available and credit cards will also be accepted. Tickets will go on sale online on November 1!”

“Women of every culture, age, income level and race can develop perinatal mood and anxiety disorders,” the page posted on Feb. 21. “Symptoms can appear any time during pregnancy and the first 12 months after childbirth.”

“Family and Children’s Services makes effective and evidence-based treatment options available to all women, regardless of their ability to pay. Thanks for supporting Mom Prom to help make that possible!”

This sounds like a fabulous way for women to enjoy themselves and have the ultimate girls’ night while also helping out others in need. Could your area use a Mom Prom?
