Tony Sukto had an abusive stepfather, and tragically, the cycle of abuse became fatal on Oct. 22, 2004 when he attacked his own family. He was hallucinating after getting high on amphetamines.
When Sukto saw his wife and son, 8-year-old Anthony, he thought they were possessed by his stepfather’s spirit.
In a rage, he fatally stabbed his wife with a large knife.

Anthony woke up to witness the terrible crime. His mother was killed by his father in their own home.
Sukto told Anthony that he was next.
The 8-year-old was stabbed in the face, neck, and stomach.

Sukto believed that he had killed his wife and son and walked outside. Anthony was alive, however, and believes that angels prompted him to call 911.
The young boy bravely told the operator, “My daddy killed me with a knife, and I’m gone. Can you please send the Army men or the ambulance?”
The youthful innocence in his voice is heartbreaking.

Yet, he also displayed great maturity and wisdom when he heard his dad had reentered the house.
Anthony quickly told the operator he had to go and hung up. He played dead as the police arrived just in time.
One of the officers was Mark Eakes. According to PEOPLE, he saw all the blood on the little boy and shared, “I remember throwing up a prayer. I’ve seen people die in front of me, and he just looked like he was on his way out.”
Sukto was sentenced to 27 years for first-degree murder and assault after pleading guilty.

Anthony experienced a miraculous recovery from such a brutal attack and was adopted by his maternal aunt and uncle.
Oprah Winfrey caught up with Anthony in 2015. Anthony spoke of his dad who nearly killed him by saying, “I’m sure he doesn’t know that I still forgive him and I love him and I just want to tell him that.”
Anthony’s strength, bravery, and forgiveness after nearly being murdered by his father at age 8 have inspired the emergency officers on the scene and everybody who has the privilege of hearing his story. According to OPRAH, the 911 operator even had her faith in God restored after speaking to Anthony.
