Mom of Four Walks into Police Station Crying. Cops Take One Look at Children, Know She Needs Help

Share

Even with the best support system, raising four children is no easy task. With little to no support or resources, the weight of that responsibility became overwhelming for a mother with four young children.

Fortunately, this mother of four sought help in the best way she could. The Harrison District police station in Chicago was a ray of light in the darkness of having no means to provide for herself and her children.

She walked into the police station crying. She was homeless and didn’t know where to go.

An abusive relationship made this mother flee from South Dakota. She was estranged from her family living in Chicago.

For two days, she and her children had been homeless in Chicago. No shelter was able to take in the family.

Officer Matthew Jackson told WBBM-TV, “They were distressed. I mean, the children were physically exhausted. The mother was holding all four babies in her lap, crying.”

This mother had two sets of twins. Two of the children were 3 years old and two of them were 18 months old.

Officers Matthew Jackson and Howard Ray knew what they needed to do. After confirming that no shelter could take in the family, they made it their goal to find this woman’s family.

The officers found the woman’s mother and the children’s grandmother, Patricia Tillman. Tillman told WLS, “I knew she had four children, I didn’t know I was going to have four children!”

Tillman also didn’t know how much Jackson and Ray would help out the family. They shopped for food and clothing for the family and personally delivered the shopping spree items to Tillman’s door.

The officers helped the homeless mother of four get in contact with her mother and helped to provide for their physical needs. They also, however, made sure to be the safe place this mother needed when she had nowhere else to turn.
