Deaf Puppy Found with Chemical Burns and Tied to Tree Near Muddy Swamp
Jessica Clayborn heard little puppy cries as she was hanging her laundry in her backyard in Zebulon, North Carolina, on September 4.
She went to investigate and saw a two-month-old puppy tied to a tree. Nash, as he is affectionately known now, weighed a mere three pounds, according to WNCN.
Little Nash was barking near a muddy swamp and struggling to free himself from the tree.
The poor pooch was covered in chemical burns and there were maggots in his ears.
Clayborn freed the little puppy, took him home and bathed him. She named him Nash after the county he was found in.
“It is possible he had been out there for a while, and I just hadn’t heard him,” Clayborn told WNCN.
The rope that was tied around Nash’s neck cut deep into his skin. Both his ear and backside were covered in chemical burns.
What’s more, Nash was discovered to be deaf, though it is unknown whether the maggots in his ears caused the loss of hearing.
The puppy was reported to the SPCA of Wake County who helped Nash recover from the horrifying situation.
The organization also found him a loving foster family to care for him until he is ready for adoption.
“Most puppies we get are just wild,” Mark Aubut, Nash’s foster dad, told WNCN. “They love to play, do puppy things.
“This guy is pretty mellow. He does get up and run around and play quite a bit, but he’s a great lap dog. He likes to just cuddle and be close to people,” Aubut added.
Nash is currently recovering and looking for a forever home with a loving family. His foster dad hopes to adopt him, but there is already a long list of possible adopters for the puppy.
The SPCA of Wake County said Nash is “doing quite well,” and he is a calm little puppy that loves to be around people.
The outpouring of kindness that so many people have provided for Nash shows that there is plenty of heart left in this world. Get well soon, Nash. We hope you quickly find a forever home.
