IHOP Waitress Gives Name Badge to Man with Down Syndrome Who Calls Himself 'Captain America'
Sometimes a small act of kindness can go a long way in brightening someone’s day. This certainly was the case for one Texas IHOP customer with Down syndrome.
When Regina Thomason and her brother Dwayne Roach stopped for a bite to eat at their Abilene, Texas, IHOP, the two had no idea a surprise was coming Roach’s way from their waitress, Millie Young, according to KABB.
As the two visited the pancake house, Roach, 50, became enthralled with the name tag of his waitress. According to his sister, Roach loves badges and name tags, so much so that he told Young that he liked hers.
He then went on to tell her that his name was Captain America.
As Roach and Thomason prepared to leave after their meal, Young came over with a special gift: a name badge just for Roach. Roach was over the moon when she pinned the badge right on his shirt.
Making it even more special, the name tag said “Captain America” on it just like Roach had told Young.
Thomason was moved by the waitress’ generosity towards her brother, and later took to Facebook to share what happened that day.
“Before we left – here comes the waitress – pins a name tag on Dwayne’s Shirt – and yes it said ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA’ – Dwayne was thrilled!” Thomason wrote on Facebook.
“Thank you to Millie at IHOP. [You] made his day!” she added.
Thomason’s Facebook post has garnered more than 950 likes so far as well as plenty of comments cheering on Young and her kind act.
Commenters wrote on Facebook saying, “It’s so nice when someone takes the extra moment to just be nice!”
Another commenter said, “This brought a few happy tears to my eyes! What a sweet lady!!!”
“Way to go Millie – sometimes taking just a few extra minutes can change someone’s day and impact a life,” another added.
For Young, the surprise for Roach was just a way to make him happy. She thoroughly enjoys making her customers’ day, which she certainly did for Roach.
“When people come in, I want to make them smile. If they leave happy, it makes me happy,” Young told KABB.
“When he left, I said, ‘Bye, Captain America!’ and he just giggled. It made me feel good,” she added.
Young shows that you are never too busy to take a moment to make someone’s day, even if it is with a simple name badge in their honor. Keep up the kindness Millie! You are an inspiration to all of us!
