Keith Urban Serenades 25-Year-Old Gravely Ill Fan in Hospice

Share

Seeing your favorite music superstar in concert is an amazing experience. But when that superstar comes to you, it is memorable beyond words.

When country music star Keith Urban learned that Marissa English, one of his biggest fans, couldn’t make to his Ohio performance, he did the only thing he could, WTOL reported. He came to her in hospice care.

The nurses at Mercy Health St. Vincent Hospital who were taking care of English used social media to tell Urban that his biggest fan was unable to attend the sold-out concert because she was too ill to go.

English is 25 years old and was born with an inoperable cyst on her brain. She also has a severe case of scoliosis and Cerebral palsy.

Although Doctors weren’t very optimistic about English’s health conditions, she proved that she has the heart and the strength to fight for her life.

“She stayed in the hospital five and a half months and when we took her home, the doctors said, ‘Go home and enjoy her for possibly a year,” Marlise Matthews, Marissa’s mother told WTOL. “That might be the longest you have her.”

But this hasn’t stopped her from loving the music and her favorite country star – Keith Urban.

Marlise Matthews, English’s mother, told WTOL that anyone would be hard-pressed to find a fan as dedicated as her daughter.

Are you a Keith Urban fan?

“She has memorabilia from a couple of the other concerts we’ve been to,” Matthews told WTOL.

“She has a T-shirt that we put on a pillow that’s beside her all the time. It’s actually cute because she’ll pick up the pillow and hug it and kiss it (and) … she’ll point at it and say ‘Mr. Hottie,’” Matthews continued.

The nurses that were caring for English made it all happen for her as they started a social media campaign to physically get Urban to her hospital bed. Urban complied with the request and made the day of this sweet girl.

“We knew how important it was to Marissa to be at that concert tonight and since she wasn’t able to we were hoping to try and find some way to have Keith make a connection with her,” Jan Cassity, a nurse at Mercy Health St. Vincent Hospital, told WTOL.

Urban showed up and sang to Marissa English in her hospital room while kneeling next to her bed and holding her hand.

He took photos hugging her and made the entire moment memorable from start to finish.

Urban understood the plight of the young girl and announced to his fans at the concert that he got to meet who he thinks is his “biggest” fan — a beautiful girl named Marissa.

Urban showed that not only is he an outstanding performer but he has a heart of gold when it came to a girl that didn’t have the strength to come to him.
