Teacher Killed by 18-Wheeler After Stopping To Help at Scene of Car Crash

Share

Good Samaritans are hard to come by. But when one comes to help you, it is often by the grace of God.

When a good Samaritan is taken too soon, especially when helping others, it brings a sadness of epic proportions.

Lesli Wood, 52, was one of those thoughtful, good Samaritans that tragically gave her life to help another, according to WBRZ.

As a Baton Rouge, Louisiana, high school teacher, she gave back continuously to her students and recently to a driver that was involved in a crash.

Wood had stopped along I-55 in Copiah County, Mississippi, to help a truck driver that had lost control of his truck, according to the Mississippi State Highway Patrol.

The driver had flipped off I-55 and Wood stopped her vehicle to check on the driver.

After making sure the truck driver was alright, Wood began her trek back to her vehicle.

It was there that Wood was struck by an 18-wheeler. The semi smashed into her vehicle, striking her with it.

The 18-wheeler also hit a number of other cars, causing a second crash with six vehicles.

Wood was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Two additional people were also hurt in the accident and taken to the hospital to treat their injuries.

Would you risk your life to help someone in need?

Wood was a music teacher at Baton Rouge Magnet High School for over two decades.

“The East Baton Rouge Parish School System is devastated by the tragic accident that took the life of Lesli Wood, a Baton Rouge Magnet High School teacher,” the school system told WBRZ in a statement.

“Ms. Wood was a beloved visual and performing arts teacher and her presence will be greatly missed. Her memory and light will continue to shine in all of her students and coworkers.”

At the time of writing, there was no information on if there were charges pending against the driver that hit Wood.

Our thoughts and prayers go out for Wood’s family and friends during this tragic time.
