Woman Saves Choking Baby at Golden Corral on Thanksgiving Day

Share

Thanksgiving Day is a day often filled with food and family. It is also a day of giving thanks and helping others.

For mother Hannah Jarvis, it was a day that a complete stranger saved her baby’s life, according to WLOS.

Jarvis and her family were eating dinner at a Hendersonville, North Carolina, Golden Corral on Thanksgiving Day.

While her family was enjoying their turkey and stuffing, Jarvis’ 7-month-old daughter Calli began to choke on some mashed potatoes.

“I had just walked back in from getting some food,” Cimarron Waldrup, Calli’s grandfather, told WLOS. “I noticed something was going on wrong. They were getting out napkins. I thought she was just spitting up.”

A waitress tried to help the poor child, but things just escalated from there.

The waitress called out for help, asking anyone in the restaurant to help save little Calli.

That was when Deborah Rouse jumped in to save the day.

“The folks turned to my grandbaby, and that’s when that lady that saved her came up,” Waldrup told WLOS with tears in his eyes.

“This lady named Deborah intervened, and she started performing the Heimlich maneuver on her,” Jarvis said.

“She held her down, like this, taking multiple blows to her back. It was miraculous, she started breathing again. She told me her name is Deborah Rouse,” she added.

When everyone was certain that Calli was alright, Jarvis thanked Rouse for saving her little girl and gave her a Thanksgiving hug for her generous act.

Even with so much thankfulness going on that day, Jarvis told WLOS that she just didn’t thank Rouse nearly as much as she would have liked to for saving Calli.

Jarvis is now on a mission to tell everyone she can that Rouse is a Thanksgiving Day hero.

Jarvis also took to Facebook to thank Rouse, her waitress and God for keeping her baby safe.

“Most importantly, thank you Jesus for hearing our desperate cries for Calli this Thanksgiving afternoon,” she wrote. “Christ was with us today Christ made sure that he was going to protect my baby today and that’s just what he did?”
