Chip & Joanna Gaines Partner with Tim Tebow, Pay off Mortgage for 'Fixer Upper' Family
If you’ve ever watched the television show “Fixer Upper,” you know all about Chip and Joanna Gaines.
Working in central Texas, the couple can take an old, worn house and turn it into something special, all to help out the homeowners and the neighborhood.
But in a recent episode, the Gaines couple took things a step further and the family that they helped couldn’t have been more appreciative.
With the help of sports star Tim Tebow, they changed not only a home, but the lives of those who lived there.
Melissa and Jody Copp’s home in Waco, Texas, was getting run down. The couple had a lot on their plate with two boys, Calan, 9, and Lawson, 5, both in wheelchairs.
Tebow had connected the family with the Gaines couple and together, with the Make A Wish Foundation, the team began to design an ADA-friendly new home. The results were amazing!
The boys looked in wonder at their new bedroom, with twin desks at just the right height for the boys to do their homework. So many special features were put into place to make life easier for them.
Make A Wish had their own surprise. They put together a wheelchair-friendly back yard. The boys could now play soccer, race around a track and enjoy a new playhouse.
This new area opened up more freedoms for the boys and gave them a place of their own.
The Copp family couldn’t express their thankfulness enough.
“To see my boys, with all the hardships that they’ve gone through, and to know that Tim and Chip and Joanna — and everyone at Make-A-Wish — came together to let my boys just be boys…I’m so happy,” said Jody.
And just when they thought that it was all over, there was more — so much more. After the show aired, Chip Gaines came up with an idea.
He decided to post a picture of the Copp family on social media with a request. “Please donate to pay off this extremely deserving family’s mortgage,” he wrote.
What happened next was unbelievable.
In less than two days, strangers from all across the country donated and the money was raised. “Y’all.. we did it! The Copp family’s mortgage has been paid in full,” wrote Chip.
With their mortgage completely paid off, the Copp family had one less worry. “It is with great joy and HUGE smile on my face that we have one less battle and struggle in this world,” said Melissa. They are forever grateful.
