Tim Conway Shared Secret Behind Sketch That Made Costar Harvey Korman Wet Himself
Tim Conway, Harvey Korman, Vicki Lawrence, and Carol Burnett made a lot of people laugh over the years.
The Carol Burnett Show was a staple in households during the 1970s. The show lasted for eleven seasons from 1967 to 1978.
It was a wonderful example of how great comedy could be as the actors had good, clean fun.
Harvey Korman and Tim Conway did many sketches together and they never failed to give the audience a good laugh.
Their key was that they authentically enjoyed what they were doing and working together.
Tim Conway carved himself one heck of a career. Some may remember him as bumbling Ensign Charles Parker playing alongside Ernest Borgnine in McHale’s Navy.
Younger fans may recognize his voice as that of “Barnacle Boy” from the SpongeBob SquarePants cartoons.
In SpongeBob Squarepants, he also stars alongside Borgnine again, as Borgnine plays the Mermaid Man.
The man who grew up in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, during humble times as a son of a horse trainer, gambled by taking a stab at show business.
He had been working on becoming a horse jockey. He also had attended Bowling Green University.
In this clip from Team Coco, Conway spoke to Conan O’Brien and Andy Richter about the famous “Dentist Sketch” he and Korman did on The Carol Burnett Show.
Conway relates that the sketch was loosely based on a dentist he knew in the service, who numbed his own thumb by accident.
Conan also got Conway to spill the beans that, “Korman wet himself during the sketch.”
Conway was proud of himself because he owned a laundromat at the time and made money doing Korman’s laundry.
In the past, Korman and Conway had insisted the skit almost didn’t make it on the air but then ironically went on to become a classic with millions of views.
There are good reasons The Carol Burnett Show won 25 Emmy Awards and was selected as the 17th Best Show of All-time by TV Guide back in a 2013 poll.
Conway and Korman are two exceptional reasons why. Boy, how they could make us and each other laugh!
