Officer Buys Meal for Homeless Man He Saw Digging Through Trash Barrel Looking for Food
Humans often have this tendency to turn a blind eye to the issues around us.
When we walk down the sidewalks of cities, we often breeze right past countless homeless people — person after person — and avoid eye contact.
It is simply the human tendency to avoid looking at issues before our eyes and instead ignore them as long as possible for the freedom to avoid guilt trips and emotions that correlate with those issues.
Young teen Matthew Resendez is someone who didn’t just walk past and ignore these issues. When he was working his shift at Burger King, a homeless man entered with only 50 cents to his name.
Resendez decided to buy the man whatever he wanted from the menu. He also sat down with him while he ate.
A woman in the restaurant noticed his kindness and decided to tip him $100 for his generosity.
This young man isn’t the only one who decided not to turn a blind eye.
One man on Facebook named Jonathan Allen observed a similar situation and decided to share it with the world.
Detective Overman was in a hot dog joint in Salt Lake City when he looked outside and saw a homeless man rummaging through trash for food.
He called outside, “Hey dude! Let me get you a dog.”
The homeless man came inside and stood by Detective Overman’s side as the officer purchased a meal for him.
Allen observed this moment and captured it on camera, sharing his admiration for this kindness.
“…thanks for extending this friendly act of kindness to less fortunate citizens of Salt Lake City,” Allen wrote.
“It was humbling. We need more compassionate people in law enforcement like yourself.”
