Steve Irwin's Family Carries On His Legacy with Brand New Show 'Crikey! It's the Irwins'
The conservation of wildlife is a growing curiosity and passion among the public. From sea turtles to the oceans, humans are trying to make a difference in the world of wildlife.
Steve Irwin was ultimately an iconic man known for his Australian adventures. He spent his days knee-deep in water surrounded by often dangerous wildlife on his own show, “The Crocodile Hunter.”
Irwin tragically died on Sept. 4, 2006, after a stingray barb stabbed him multiple times in the heart. At the time, he was filming the documentary “Ocean’s Deadliest.”
In April, Steve was honored posthumously with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His entire family was there for the tribute.
Bindi Irwin spoke on behalf of her father at the Los Angeles, California, ceremony. She said, “We try to continue dad’s legacy each and every day, and we want to make sure everything he lived and died for continues on into the future.
“I have to tell you that I never in my wildest dreams imagined that this would become a reality and this is such an honor as a family.”
Irwin’s family is continuing to carry on his legacy with a new television show called “Crikey! It’s the Irwins” that will premiere on Oct. 28.
The show features Irwin’s wife Terri and their two children, Bindi and Robert, and it will follow them as they care for wildlife at the Australia Zoo and embark on numerous other expeditions, Reuters reported.
“We are continuing on in dad’s footsteps and everything that we do today at Australia Zoo and with our Wildlife Warriors work is exactly what he started,” Bindi Irwin said.
She also spoke of specific acts of wildlife care that they will honor and carry out in memory of their father.
“In the show, we’ll have some amazing moments of reflecting on what he used to do, from feeding crocodiles to cuddling koalas. And then you’ll see us doing the exact same things making sure that everything he loved the most carries on into the future.”
Robert Irwin added, “We’ll take you to Africa. We’ll take you to the Great Barrier Reef. We’ll take you up north to remote northern Queensland where we do our crocodile research.
“It’s all about wildlife, it’s all about conservation and fun as a family.”
