Dog Won't Stop Staring Out Window, Owner Sees Him Dart Toward Elderly Woman in Pond
When a dog begins to whimper by the door, you generally assume one of two things: they want to go for a walk, or they need to be let out to do their business.
It would be strange to assume any higher intentions.
However, we should not write off the entire species as unintelligent, or non-sentient. In fact, we are often introduced to stories of dogs knowing what is going on better than we do.
On Feb. 6, we were gifted with a story of a four-legged friend who seemed to have a sixth sense for danger.
This dog’s name is Bruce (a pit bull fittingly named after Batman’s alter ego), and he helped save an elderly woman’s life last week in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
His owner, a woman identified as Abby, noticed her pooch whimpering by the door. Although this didn’t seem immediately abnormal to her, Bruce was obviously intent on something more than a walk when he bolted out the open door.
Abby chased after him, worried he may be getting into mischief. However, the dog stopped suddenly at a small pond by her residence.
In the pond was an elderly woman, wading through the chilly waters confused and half-naked. Abby immediately tied Bruce’s lease to a tree and jumped to action.
She quickly managed to lead the woman out of the water and brought her back to the house. She clothed the woman and gave her some hot tea while they waited for authorities to arrive.
The woman was later identified as a grandmother, living with her family in the same neighborhood. They had just realized she had gone missing when Abby found her. The woman wasn’t hurt.
Abby claimed she never would have noticed the woman if her dog was not hyper-vigilant to the situation.
She hopes to use this story as an opportunity to show others that pit bulls are not an inherently dangerous breed.
She claims Bruce often lives up to his superhero name, saying, “He saves me in ways every day.”
It is remarkable to witness this dog’s clear intention to help someone. It seems that such an instinct is not just the product of Hollywood movies; dogs really do act heroically.
They often display loyalty and bravery when faced with emergency situations. It is as if they are driven to assist by a higher moral compass — something we can’t even fully comprehend.
If more people aspired to be as heroic as Bruce is, the world might be a better place. Be sure to get involved, be vigilant, and never pass up an opportunity to help others.
