Hollywood Actor and a Pro-Golfer Involved in Fatal Car Crash

Share

A car accident in Los Angeles this week led to the death of one man and two other injuries.

A Ferrari flipped over and crashed into a Toyota SUV and a BMW.

The driver of the Ferrari was killed in the crash, and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. Officials identified him as 71-year-old Mark Gibello.

In Gibello’s passenger’s seat was professional golfer Bill Haas. He was injured in the crash and taken to the hospital.

Among the injured was the unidentified driver of the BMW. The 50-year-old woman was also taken to the hospital.

The Toyota SUV, which was only sideswiped in the crash, belonged to actor Luke Wilson. He was not injured in the crash.

“His vehicle basically just got clipped by the Ferrari,” Detective Jeff Fischer of the Los Angeles Police Department told KTLA.

It appears that Wilson’s car was spared the brunt of the damage.

Although initial reports had Haas in “serious condition,” it appears that the golfer is doing fine after being treated at the hospital.

He was in town for the Genesis Open, and the man killed was part of the family hosting him for the week.

Jay Haas, Bill’s father, confirmed to the Golf Channel that Bill was released from the hospital a day after the crash. He has pain and swelling his leg but avoided breaking any bones.

“Bill was very fortunate,” Jay said. Bill withdrew from the Genesis Open and plans to return home to recover from the crash.

Following Bill’s release from the hospital, the PGA Tour released a statement addressing the accident and updating fans.

“While Bill escaped serious injuries and has been released from the hospital, he is understandably shaken up and — more importantly — his deepest condolences go out to the host family during this tragic and difficult time,” the statement said.

Police are still reviewing surveillance footage of the crash to determine the cause.

“[Bill] appreciates the support of friends, family and the golf world as a whole, and he has asked for privacy as he processes what has happened,” the PGA’s statement concluded.
