Little Boy Makes Heartbreaking Card for Teacher Whose Dog Passed Away

Share

True pet lovers tend to form special bonds with their fur babies, and eventually, they become part of the family.

This was the case for a mother and daughter living in Glasgow, Scotland. Just 18 months ago, Lucie Dunne and her mother, an elementary school teacher, welcomed a dog named Charlie into their home.

Charlie was fitting right in with the family until the day he suddenly fell ill. The sweet dog was diagnosed with a severe tumor near his heart and unexpectedly passed away over the weekend.

“Before we knew it, he was in intensive care with cancer and a massive tumor pressing into his heart,” Dunne said.

“By the end, he was oxygen-dependent and we had to let him go.”

When returning to school Monday, Feb. 19, Dunne’s mom relayed the upsetting news to her students, who enjoyed drawing pictures of Charlie.

One student, named Callum, took notice of her grief, and decided to do something special for his teacher.

The student asked for some paper and started making a heartbreaking sympathy card without the teacher’s knowledge.

Toward the end of the school day, Callum gave her the card, and it left her “quite touched.”

“Sorry if you don’t like it or it makes you emotional,” it began.

It then led into a poem describing Charlie as a “happy,” “adorable,” and “lucky” dog. But, it was the ending that got me!

Callum reassured his teacher that her pooch was at peace. “But most of all know your dog was special and your dog is in a better place and is looking over you,” he wrote before signing his name.

After reading the lovely card, her daughter “tweeted it straight away,” and it has now gained more than 149,500 likes. It brought some comfort to her just as much as it did her mom.

Dunne was known to post a lot of photos and videos of Charlie on her social media accounts. “He was just amazing,” she said.

During his little time here on earth, Charlie had a major impact on the Dunnes and even on the little ones who knew of him.

Callum’s empathy card was just a reminder that he was a great dog who would forever live on in their hearts.
