Actor Peter Fonda, Brother of Jane Fonda, Dead at Age 79
Peter Fonda, the two-time Oscar-nominated actor most famously known for his role on “Easy Rider,” passed away on Friday, Aug. 16, 2019.
“It is with deep sorrow that we share the news that Peter Fonda has passed away,” the family told People. “[Peter] passed away peacefully on Friday morning, August 16 at 11:05 a.m. at his home in Los Angeles surrounded by family.”
After battling lung cancer, Peter passed away due to respiratory failure.
In 1961, Fonda debuted in the Broadway production of “Blood, Sweat and Stanley Poole.” Following in his father’s footsteps, he starred in his first film “The Victors” just two years later.
While his most well-known role was in the 1969 film “Easy Rider,” Fonda continued to act and direct, which gave him four Golden Globe nominations, two Oscar nominations and one Emmy nomination.
Peter leaves behind his wife Margaret “Parky” DeVogelaere, his two children, Bridget, 55, and Justin, 53, and his sister Jane Fonda, 81.
“In one of the saddest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our hearts. As we grieve, we ask that you respect our privacy,” the family told People.
“And, while we mourn the loss of this sweet and gracious man, we also wish for all to celebrate his indomitable spirit and love of life. In honor of Peter, please raise a glass to freedom.”
