Dying Mom Battling Cancer Gets Her Last Wish: One More Family Sleepover

Share

A mother who knows that her death is near simply asked for one last family sleepover this Christmas season and thanks to the generosity of strangers in her community she is able to do just that.

Ryan Kania, 33, was diagnosed with advanced cervical cancer and since has been undergoing chemotherapy treatments to try to combat it.

She also developed blood clots in her legs, heart and lungs during her treatments which eventually caused a minor stroke.

Then, just five days before Christmas, doctors gave Ryan and her family the devastating news that they couldn’t do anything more to help control the aggressively growing cancer.

As the fatality of her diagnosis began to settle in, Ryan and her family have cherished any quality time they can get.

“Even though she is the one going through this, she is constantly telling ME that it will be okay,” her husband Brian said. “She needs to keep fighting because this world is a better place with her in it.”

Ryan’s sister, Ami Jiang, reached out to Hope Rises News in hopes that a kind Samaritan would help this fighting young mother make as many special memories with her family as possible.

Ryan only had one simple request. “A sleepover with my fourteen closest family and friends…the PENTHOUSE suite,” she joked. “Time to play games, spend an entire night together and make lasting memories.”

Only two days after the original article requesting help was posted, Ryan’s dream was able to come true and in a much bigger way than she could’ve ever imagined.

An associate of Russell J. Salvatore, a local restaurateur and philanthropist, reached out to Hope News Rises on his behalf:

“Mr. Salvatore was very saddened to find out about Ryan’s situation, especially during the holidays. Russell has the biggest heart in Buffalo, adding enhancements to this experience for Ryan including a horse and carriage ride for the family to tour the lights festival outside of the hotel, and it will fit her entire family. The sleepover will be a very magical night, featuring dinner, and a gourmet popcorn and cookie bar. We are very glad to help and Salvatores Grand Hotel will add this to the book of the greatest guest at our property.”

Ryan feels overwhelmingly blessed that strangers would go out of their way to help her family spend quality time together.

“I can’t believe Mr.Salvatore is opening his hotel to us and allowing me to have the sleepover of my dreams,” Ryan told WGRZ.

Several other kind hearts in the Buffalo area have reached out to the family to ensure even more memories are made, with gifts like Buffalo Sabre tickets, goodies from a local Victoria Secret store and a free photography session.

Ryan’s mother said, “What started as small sleepover is now going to be a wonderful family memory for all of us.”
