Man Stands By Register, Buys Snacks for Every Hungry Soldier in Convoy

Share

Those who serve in the military deserve all of the thanks in the world for everything they do for their country. It could be something as simple as saying, “Thank you” to someone in uniform or something as selfless as what one Greendale, Indiana, man did.

Mike Kestermann was recently caught on camera for showing his gratitude to a convoy of soldiers who stopped in a local gas station.

When he pulled up to the gas station and saw that the store was full of soldiers who were on their way home from two weeks of training, he didn’t even think twice about what happened next.

He told each and every soldier that their snacks were going to be paid for.

Darlene Davis, one of the clerks at the counter, picked up her smartphone and began recording the amazing “pay it forward” moment. She wanted to show people that kind people still exist in the world.

The video shows him greeting each individual soldier as they brought their items up to the counter.

He even told one soldier, “It’s all about you today.”

Kestermann told WTHR 13 that he viewed it as an opportunity to bless someone’s life.

“Our young soldiers. They put their lives on the line every day they are doing this,” he said. “We have to show appreciation for what they are doing.”

Around 25 soldiers were blessed by Kestermann’s actions that day; the total came out to $148, but he said he didn’t even pay attention. He just gave his card to the cashier and left.

The humble man wasn’t hoping to gain any attention for his actions that day, he just hoped that it would inspire somebody else to do something similar.

He would get his wish sooner than he thought.

Another convoy came through the store later that day. Following Kestermann’s example, Davis paid for all of their snacks. The commander even came into the store to give her a big hug to thank her for the kind act.

Kestermann’s actions are truly inspiring and a precious reminder to thank those who sacrifice so much to keep this country safe.
