After Mystery Bomber Sets House Ablaze, Mom Fights for Life in Hospital Without Knowing 4 of Her Kids are Dead From Fire
The police were aware the home was unsafe. Social services was aware.
But according to Claire Pearson, her sister was let down by the system. “…my sister and her kids would have had a chance of survival if they did their job properly.”
Now four children are dead. And their mother, who is in a coma at the hospital in critical condition, doesn’t know.
Mike Pearson, who is the children’s grandfather, said that his daughter had begged just that week to housing to be moved. They told her “you’re not at risk, you’re not in danger.”
Michelle Pearson and her children were living in a mid-terraced home in the Greater Manchester area of England. Shortly after 5 a.m. on Dec. 11, a fire broke out.
But this was no ordinary house fire: This was an attack. Petrol bombs were thrown at the house, setting it ablaze.
Fifteen-year-old Demi was killed in the home. Eight-year-old Brandon and 7-year-old Lacie died on the day of the fire at the hospital.
Little Lia, who was only three, was taken off life support on Dec. 13 and passed away.
Michelle, 35, is in a coma and unaware that her children have passed away. The family is “dreading the day” they have to tell the mother the “awful news about her babies.”
Since the attack, police have charged three people with murder. David Worrall, 25, Zac Bolland, 23, and Courtney Brierley, 20.
For now, the family released a joint statement and is asking for prayers as they hang onto hope that Michelle will recover.
“This week has been a whirlwind. We have been in our own bubble and our focus has been solely on our family on our Michelle as she lies in her hospital bed.”
“We are asking people to keep Michelle in their thoughts, she has lost her babies and it is heart breaking but she has a loving family who will try their best to get her through this and two older sons who adore her.”
“The community have been incredible, the response and love we’ve had has been overwhelming. We have not even begun to look through all the messages and cards we’ve received, but we will one day.”
The children’s uncle, Matt Pearson, has also started a GoFundMe page to help cover the funeral expenses. “I want to give these kids the best funeral they deserve… they will all be buried together side by side.”
Friends and neighbors have also left tributes of flowers and candles for the children at the home.
